Republic of Ireland Under-16 manager John Morling has announced a 16-player squad for their first international game of the season away to Wales in Neath AFC this Sunday, 30 August (3pm).
The fixture will be Morling's first in charge of the Under-16s, having taken the reins from Vincent Butler who retired from the post at the end of last season. Morling, however, is familiar with the group after managing them during last season's Under-15 campaign when he capped over 40 players.
Morling said: "We have a busy few months ahead with this game in Wales followed by double-headers against Malta, Denmark and Czech Republic between September and November.
The attitude and application shown by the players during last week's training camp in Limerick was most pleasing and bodes well for the season ahead.
"We drew 1-1 against Wales last season at the Under-15 Celtic tri-nations tournament and we'll expect them to be just as competitive on Sunday."
Morling is delighted to be able to hand a debut international call-up to Samuel Ade Odobe, a striker from the Glenmiur club in Dundalk who missed most of last season with a cruciate ligament injury.
"Sammy performed well in the trials during the summer and showed a great desire to be involved at this level. He will be a great addition to the squad," added Morling.
