Ireland U18 squad face Czechs in second friendly

REPUBLIC of Ireland U18 Head Coach Paul Doolin is looking for an improved display from his side in the second of two friendly internationals against Czech Republic tomorrow.

The Irish face the Czechs at Libcice nad Vltauou (4.30pm Irish) after losing 2-1 to the home side on Tuesday.

Doolin is using these games to look at potential players for next years UEFA U19 Championship campaign and while he was pleased with the display on Tuesday he feels there is more to come.

“The Czechs were definitely a side that knew each other a lot better than we did so it is obvious that the little bit of familiarity they have that we do not would be an advantage,” said Doolin.

“We did well in the first half on Tuesday but when the Czechs upped the level after the break we were forced to defend a lot more.

“Individually the likes of Josh Cullen, Gareth McCaffery and Liam Flatley – who had also done well in the home-based game in Waterford last month – all had decent performances.

“I will be looking at the players who did not get game-time on Tuesday or else who did not start and it is a chance for them to show what they can do and for us to have a look at them.

“We had some good periods of the game on Tuesday and we will be looking to see if we can produce a bit more in the next game.”
