14.12.2009 at 18:00 - Khalifa Stadium

Republic of Ireland Under-15 manager John Morling has named an 18-player squad for next week's double-header against the Aspire Academy in Qatar.

These will be first games of the season for this squad and the manager is thrilled to able to test their talents within the splendid facility in Doha.

Irish underage squads have visited the World-class facility to play matches in each of the past three season and these newcomers to the international football will play two friendly matches next Monday, December 14 and two days later on Wednesday, December 16 at the superb Khalifa Stadium.

Morling has been assessing his players since they lined out for their respective leagues at the SFAI Umbro Kennedy Cup last June and also through the FAI's Emerging Talent Regional coaching centres.

"We have held a number of training sessions and practice matches with the squad and now is our first chance to see how they perform at international level," said Morling.

"The lads are eager to play their first matches in the Irish shirt. These will be the first of about ten matches we'll organise for the Under-15 age-group between now and the end of the campaign. There will be opportunities given to players who marginally missed out on selection for this trip in those matches.

"I know from my own experience of visiting the Aspire Academy last season that our players will benefit greatly from the trip. It is a customised venue designed to nurture youngsters of all sports, not just football, and the best of facilities will be available to them over the five days."
