European Qualifier
27.10.2000 at 11:00 - Riga
Ireland's u16 squad face a tough couple of days if they are to qualify from a three-team mini-tournament which starts in Latvia today.
Ireland are pitted against the hosts, plus underage kingpins Spain, in a very difficult group. They kick off their campaign against Latvia today and the result of that match will decide when they play Spain.
If they win against Latvia they face Spain on Sunday; but if they lose they will have to wait until Tuesday before they get a chance to take on the Spaniards.
Manager Brian Kerr has lost only one player from his original squad. Manchester City's Stephen Elliott has had to pull out because of injury.
Ireland: Darren Kelly (Ipswich Town); Morgan Cranley (Belvedere); Pierre Ennis (Aston Villa); John Fitzgerald (Blackburn); Eddie Keyes (Belvedere); Chris McGrath (Liverpool); Glen Whelan (Man City); Stephen Rice (Coventry); Kieran Sharkey (Belvedere); Stephen Bradley (Arsenal); Killian Brennan (Home Farm); Aaron Cameron (Home Farm); Paul Keegan (Leeds Utd); Conor Kenna (Coventry); Darren Potter (Liverpool); Denis Behan (Abbeyfeale); Stephen Maguire (Belvedere); Niall McCafferty (Charlton); Ian McGrane (Wolves); Robbie Shields (Leeds Utd); Michael Treacy (Preston).
