Mohan names squad for U17 friendlies against Austria
REPUBLIC of Ireland U17 head coach Tom Mohan has named his squad for next weeks friendly international matches against Austria in Dublin.
The Irish host the Austrians at Dalymount Park on Tuesday, March 4 (5pm) and then the sides meet again at Gannon Park, Malahide, on Thursday, March 6 (2.00pm).
Mohans side are preparing for the Elite Qualifying Phase of the UEFA U17 Championships where Ireland travel to Serbia at the end of March to meet the Serbs (March 26), Germany (March 28) and Georgia (March 31) with the winners progressing to the finals in Malta in May.
"These games are fantastic opportunity to provide players with a chance to stake a claim for a place in the Elite Phase squad," said Mohan.
"The lads in this squad are in the driving seat to head to Serbia and they will be tested by very strong opposition against Austria, who are also preparing for their Elite Phase games.
"The standby list for this game is very strong and there are a lot of players battling to make the Serbia squad but we also want to give some of the players a little more international experience."
