REPUBLIC of Ireland U17s Head Coach Tom Mohan has named his squad for two friendly matches against Slovakia in Bratislava next week.

The Irish meet the Slovaks on Tuesday, September 10 (3.00pm Irish) and Thursday, September 12 (10.00am) as they prepare for their UEFA U17 Championships qualifying round games in October.

Ireland will travel to Armenia next month where they will meet Gibraltar on October 24, the Armenians on October 26 and England on October 29.

Mohan said: "There are a lot of players who did very well last season involved. They beat Germany and won the U16 invitational tournament at the end of May.

"There are good players in this age group and every year there'll always be new players and you have to keep raising the bar all the time.

"I went to see England beat Turkey on Friday night and they're obviously a decent side. The most important thing for us now is to look at everybody so that we're ready for the qualifiers.

"We'll continue to monitor players. There were a few players were close to it and they shouldn't feel they don't have a chance of making that squad.

"You have to use the friendly games for what they are, which is trying different things and see how players do in different roles especially when in qualifying you can have injuries and suspensions so versatility is key."

Mohan has called in two players that were never capped for Ireland before in Birmingham City left-back Dominic Bernard and Chelsea FC midfielder Kyle Scott, whose brother Kristian was named in an U19 squad recently but was forced out by injury.

"Dominic Bernard a defender we got good reports about while Kyle Scott is a midfielder who is also highly regarded. He is a creative midfielder who can open up defences," said Mohan.
