REPUBLIC of Ireland U17 team manager Tom Mohan has named his squad for the forthcoming UEFA U17 Championships Elite Qualifying Round in Austria.
The Irish have a tough qualifying group with the Austrians joined by Georgia and Serbia with just the group winners progressing to the finals in Slovakia this May.
“It’s hard to whittle the players down to just 18 but since we qualified through to this stage we’ve had a look at a lot of players to see if we can strengthen the squad in any way,” said Mohan.
“When you are playing three games in five days you have to go for players who are versatile and cover a number of positions as injuries and suspensions will definitely kick-in.
“The recent friendly matches against Croatia were a very good benchmark for what we can expect here and the players know that in football every time you progress the challenge gets that little bit more difficult.”
