Harry McCue names Republic of Ireland U21 squad
U21 caretaker manager Harry McCue has announced the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for the forthcoming UEFA U21 Championship qualifying round fixtures against Romania.
Bristol City defender Derrick Williams returns to the squad after missing the recent clash with Germany through injury.
Samir Carruthers, on-loan to MK Dons from Aston Villa, is included but is suspended for the first game after his dismissal against the Germans last month.
“We are looking forward to these two games. Romania will be good test for us but we are aiming to get at least four points out of the two fixtures,” said McCue, who is deputising for Noel King as he takes the interim managers position with the senior squad.
“The Germany game last month was disappointing but we have chatted about it and the attitude is right amongst the players to get back on track.
“We look forward to returning to Sligo for the second game where the players are very happy and the home crowd has always been right behind us.”
