Preview: Rep of Ireland Under 19 - Czech Rep
Friendly
05.02.2008 at 19:30 - United Park, Drogheda

Republic of Ireland Under 19 manager, Sean McCaffrey, today announced his 20 man squad for the forthcoming friendly matches against the Czech Republic.

The squad includes two players who will make their international debut for the Republic of Ireland, Derry City duo, David McDaid and Seamus Sharkey. Sean McCaffrey also called Sean Scannell up from the Irish Under 18 squad to make his first Under 19 appearance.

The two friendlies will take place in United Park, Drogheda on 5th and 7th February 2008 with both matches kicking off at 7.30pm.

Republic of Ireland Under 19 manager, Sean McCaffrey said, “These matches are extremely important for the future development of these players, especially when you consider that this Czech Republic team were Under 17 European finalist two years ago. It’s crucial for a lot of these players to make the step into the Under 21 squad and playing for Under 19 level will help them bridge the gap. We have also included four new players who will be eligible to play Under 19 next season so this is a good opportunity for us to lay the foundations. I am also looking forward to seeing Sean Scannell at this level who is having a fantastic season for the Crystal Palace first team where he has carved out a strike partnership with fellow Irish International, Clinton Morrison.”

Assistant Manager, Tommy Connolly, will take charge of the squad for the first game as McCaffrey will be deputising for Don Givens as Under 21 manager for their UEFA European Championship qualifier against England in Southampton. Connolly is an ex Dundalk manager and has been involved with Underage International set-ups for a number of years.
