Clinton came through the Crystal Palace youth set-up and he certainly did not let anyone down at the club scoring 71 goals in 181 appearances for them. In the summer of 2002 he moved to Birmingham City for £4.25m and he quickly became a firm crowd favourite by scoring his first goal for them against none other than arch-rivals Aston Villa. He scored 16 times in 64 starts for Birmingham before he rejoined Crystal Palace for £2m in August, 2005. Clinton, who could have played for a number of other countries, declared for the Republic and he won his first Senior cap against Croatia in August 2001. He has scored nine goals for Ireland.
