Sean McCaffreys first game in charge of the Irish Under-19s ended in a 1-1 draw in Kilkenny in this friendlt double header against Slovakia.
McCaffreys under-19 side should have won against Slovakia at Buckley Park. Ireland had taken the lead through Michael Timlin of Fulham after just eight minutes, and although Slovakia created a number of opportunities, the home side had seemingly weathered the storm when a terrible mix-up between Stephen Rice and goalkeeper Tim Ditmer in the 37th minute allowed the visitors to equalise.
Despite having the better of the second half, McCaffreys men were unable to convert chances into goals.
John Fitzgerald had two headers saved and with Stephen Bradley in control in the middle of the park he was able to set up Longford Towns Paddy Mulvihill but Daniel Kiss in the slovakian goal dived bravely at his feet. |
