Match 5

The Irish Independent reported “Dunne scores twice - Poor shooting by Belgians”

On a windy day little good football was displayed by either side as Ireland ran out 3-1 winners over Belgium in Parc Astrid before 15,000 spectators.

Belgium took the lead after 20 minutes when Bastin – who was one of the 1920 team that won the Olympic Games.

Dunne scored an equaliser after 32 minutes with no further scoring in the first half left the sides level going in at the break.

Further goals in the second half by Dunne after 57 minutes and Flood after 77 minutes saw Ireland win their third successive game against Belgium.

Ireland were best served by Glenn and Mc Loughlin while Lacey played well up front but Dunne was the outstanding performer in this victory.
