Match report
Ireland held by Bulgaria in U19 friendly

The Republic of Ireland Under-19 team were held to a 0-0 draw by their hosts, Bulgaria in Pravetz on Tuesday.

Sean McCaffrey’s side dominated the game for much of the first half, hitting the cross bar on four occasions.

Ireland were, however, reduced to ten men when Reading’s Jonathan Hayes was
sent off after 30 minutes.

The Irish continued pressing for an opener in the second half and should have been rewarded after a great run from John Paul Kelly but his effort failed to beat the Bulgarian goalkeeper.

The Republic of Ireland will face Bulgaria again on Thursday 25th August, kick-off 18.00 hrs (local time)

Sean McCaffrey was satisfied with the performance which is seen as key preparation for the upcoming UEFA U19 Championship 1st Phase Qualifying to be held in Cork in October.

He also praised eircom League clubs from whose managers he has had great
co-operation and support.
