Match report
A goal in the final ten minutes for substitute Jessica Ziu was not enough as the Republic of Ireland Women's Under-17 side lost 2-1 to Denmark this afternoon.
8th Feb 2018

The second of two games to take place between the sides this week at the FAI National Training Centre saw Denmark open the scoring through Josefine Hasbo after 14 minutes.

Ireland were unlucky not to go into the break level, after Emily Whelan's shot was excellently saved by goalkeeper Line Andersen five minutes before half-time.

Denmark doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half, with a goal from Pernille Pedersen. After the away side doubled their lead, Ireland pushed for goals and thought they equalised with 15 minutes left, but Allanah McEvoy's goal was disallowed.

Ziu scored from the edge of the box with seven minutes to go, but the team were not able to find the crucial equaliser.

Speaking after the match, manager Colin Bell (pictured above) said he was happy with the test his side was given over both games this week.

"We were up against a good opponent this week, so it was beneficial for the team to learn."

"Jess [Ziu] scored a nice goal. We definitely deserved the goal, but it was disappointing to have one disallowed."
