Germany 6-0 Republic of Ireland
Susan Ronan’s Irish U19’s were defeated 6-0 by Germany in the final group 4 game of the elite qualifying phase of the UEFA Championships. The result means that Germany march towards the UEFA Championship finals in Belarus while the Irish will begin preparations for next year’s championship.
Germany took the lead with only 10 seconds on the clock straight from the start when the ball was played to Alexandra Popp who blasted the ball from 30 yards out and her effort sailed over Irish keeper, Aisling Dyer.
The Irish responded strongly and they almost grabbed an equaliser a minute later when Dundalk’s Gillian McDonnell shot from outside the box was tipped over by Schumann in Germany’s goal.
Germany doubled their lead after six minutes when Bianca Joswiak made a darting run down the right wing and her cross was deflected into the goal by the Irish defence.
The Germans scored their third after 16 minutes with an incredible strike, in a neat build up, the ball was played back to Kristina Gessat at the edge of the box and her powerful effort eluded Aisling Dyer in Ireland’s goal, giving her no chance.
Dzsenifer Marozsan scored Germany’s fourth after 21 minutes from a superb free-kick, the influential striker hammered her shot onto the crossbar and into the net from 25 yards.
On the stroke of fulltime, Dzenifer Marozan turned provider as she wriggled her way into the Irish box and she squared to Alexandra Popp who applied a neat finish from ten yards out.
The pair combined one minute later in the first minute of extra time as Popp claimed her hat-trick, Marozan made a darting run down the right flank and she delivered a pin-point cross to Popp whose powerful header hit the back of the net.
