An early hat-trick for Ballina Town striker, Orla Devanney gave the Irish a perfect start while Westport’s Maria Harrington relished her captains role as she starred in midfield for the home side.
The Irish started the game very brightly and they only had to wait until the fourth minute to open the scoring; Maria Delahunty dribbled through the Northern Ireland defence but Laurel Patterson in the Northern Ireland goal was out early but her clearance went straight to Orla Devanney from 20 yards out and she made no mistake with her finish as she blasted the ball into the top right hand corner.
Orla Devanney scored her second after 16 minutes, Dora O’Gorman made a darting run through the visitors defence and Patterson was once again on-hand to save at her feet but the rebound fell to the prolific Mayo striker who made no mistake from 10 yards out.
Stella Maris midfielder, Kirsty Keogh made it three after 19 minutes, she beat the Northern Ireland offside trap and she ran straight through on-goal. Keogh held her nerve, rounded the keeper and tapped into an empty net.
Four minutes later, Ballina town’s Orla Devanney completed her hat-trick, a corner from the left hand side was swung in and she rose highest in the box to power her header past Patterson in the visitors goal.
Waterford based midfielder, Maria Delahunty claimed the Republic’s fifth goal, the Benfica star swung in a corner from the right hand side which caused chaos in the Northern Ireland defence and found its way into the back of the net straight from the corner kick.
Kirsty Keogh scored her second just before half time. After 30 minutes, Orla Devanney blasted the ball at Patterson in the Northern Ireland goal and she palmed her effort towards Keogh who slotted home from 10 yards.
Lagan Harps midfielder, Ciara Grant got in on the scoring just after half-time, a long cross-field ball was met by Grant who powerfully half-volleyed the ball past the keeper.
Northern Ireland threw caution to the wind in the second half and they brought the game to Noel King’s side. They pushed forward and made the Irish work hard in a keenly-fought battle. Northern Ireland substitute, Amber Dempster scored a consolation goal with 15 minutes remaining, she cooly rounded Irish substitute goalkeeper, Kiev Dollard and tapped home to make the final score 7-1.
