Ireland U15s record victory over Scotland

THE Republic of Ireland U15 side beat Scotland in a keenly contested friendly international at East End Park, Dunfermline, this afternoon.
Colin O'Brien's side got off to an impressive start with Eoin Porter opening the scoring in the 20th minute after good creative play by Tyreke Wilson.
The Irish extended their lead two minutes later when Anthony Scully turned the ball home following a short corner which was sent in by Jamie Hamilton.
Ireland suffered a blow when Wilson was unfortunate to receive a red card in the 29th minute for a mistimed tackle.
Blair Murphy pulled one back for the Scots from the resulting free-kick and the Scots were level early in the second half when Lewis Bell hit the target for the home side.
New Ross Celtic’s Porter then snatched the winner in the 58th minute when he got on the end of a knock-down from Thomas Byrne to fire home.
“It was nice to get a win but I was especially pleased with the performance,” said O’Brien.
“There were a lot of new experiences for the players in this fixture. Playing in a 12,500 seater stadium was a new environment for them and you don’t always know how they’ll cope in that situation.
“We tried to play the right way, scored some excellent goals and created a number of chances. Tyreke was very unfortunate to get sent-off. He’d been playing very well.
“The lads had to adapt and they did superbly well to play with ten men for 50 minutes. Even a man down, they kept possession for long periods.
“I have to compliment them on the maturity they showed to cope with being a man down for so long. The biggest compliment we can give them for the intelligence they played with. They showed great maturity and intelligence in their play.
“All three of our goals were created from good football and we’d been working on attacking so that was very pleasing.”
The sides will meet again in another friendly at the same venue and O’Brien believes it will be another good learning opportunity for his side.
“ We’ll be doing the right things with nutrition, rest and preparation for Wednesday,” he said.
“They know what to expect with Scotland now. The Scots started with a high pressing game. They worked very hard and our boys had to cope with that so we were very pleased with how they did.”
