Aston Villa 'keeper Wayne Henderson was the hero as Ireland fought out a creditable 0-0 draw with France in Lunel yesterday.

French coach Francois Blaquart assembled a formidable squad drawn mainly from the French first division, and including Arsenal prospect Jeremie Aladiere. But the well organised Irish team kept chances down to a minimum.

The French managed to carve out two first-half openings but Henderson was equal to the task, making two top-class stops.

Ireland\'s best chance came as early as the 14th minute when Tranmere\'s Sean Thornton well-hit drive found the target but French \'keeper Bonnefoi dealt capably with it.

The teams meet again tomorrow at Vergeze.
