Pictures from the match
Goals from Sinclair Armstrong and Ben McCormack in the first half was enough for Colin O’Brien’s side in La Nucia, Spain as they prepare for UEFA Under-17 Championships qualifiers in November.

Ireland took the lead inside 10 minutes when McCormack found room on the right to cross for Shamrock Rovers’ Armstrong to head home.

Russia were kept to half chances in a physical game in 24C heat as the Irish side nullified the attacks of their opposition.

And before half-time they doubled their lead. This time Armstrong turning provider for St Patrick’s Athletic man McCormack who converted the cross with a finish in the left hand corner.

In the second half it was Ireland’s wide play that caused the Russians problems McCormack again putting in a dangerous cross that just evaded those in green jerseys.

In difficult conditions and with the rain pouring heavily Ireland dominated possession in the Russia half. A free-kick from Kyle Martin-Conway drew a save from Daniil Odoevskii late-on but the two first-half goals did the damage for Colin O’Brien’s side.
