Parrott’s 30 yard free kick in the second minute of additional time was the least Ireland deserved in testing conditions in Galway.
Colin O’Brien’s side had the better of the chances over the opening sixty minutes but found themselves behind following Atakun Gunduz’s penalty on the hour mark. That was the catalyst for an Irish onslaught that was rewarded with Parrott’s late leveller.
Speaking to FAI.ie after the game, Ireland Head Coach Colin O’Brien felt a draw was the least his team deserved. “We definitely deserved to get something from the game. Over the 80 minutes we probably created the better of the chances. Troy (Parrott) showed great courage to take on that opportunity and the execution was top quality,” O’Brien said.
“It was a really tough battle. There were some pleasing aspects of our play and other facets we’ll have to work on. We’ll regroup now ahead of Thursday, assess the injuries and who needs minutes,” the Ireland boss added.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday with a 1pm kick off in Eamonn Deacy Park.
