Match report
Ireland 0 Netherlands 2

Vinny Butlers Irish Under 15 team were beaten by a superior Dutch in windy conditions in Whitehall on Thursday afternoon.

It was a much changed Irish team from the side that had drawn with The Netherlands on Tuesday evening with only captain, Gareth Wallace and Jack Carty retaining their place in the starting line up as Butler got a good look at his squad.

Throughout the game the Dutch adapted to the conditions much better than the Irish and they looked far more comfortable in possession. They looked particularly dangerous on the right flank where Christian Gandu looked very lively and the first chance of the game came from his right wing cross after seven minutes. He picked out Guido Moelee but Keith Wright made a good save from the Dutch strikers header, gathering the ball at the second attempt.

Ireland gradually played their way into the game and they were given a glorious chance to open the scoring after 20 minutes. Wrights long kick out was collected by Paul Whyte, he outmuscled Arjan Akkerman but as he tried to flick the ball over Dico Koppers but the ball struck the Dutchman on the arm and a penalty was awarded.

Skipper, Gareth Wallace stood up to take the kick but his shot was weak and it was an easy save for Bouwmeester.

Akkerman then did very well to clear a Michael Rafter cross while under pressure from the Irish attack but the Dutch came close to breaking the deadlock three minutes before the half time break.

Gandus trickery won a corner on the right which Nygel Velder took. His kick picked out Gandu and he was very lucky to see his header thump off the underside of the crossbar before the Irish could hack the ball away to safety.

The second half began similarly when just five minutes after the restart, the Dutch struck the woodwork again. Keith Wright came to collect Marco van Ginkels free kick but under pressure from Gandu and Matt Doherty, he missed his punch but luck smiled on Ireland once more and the ball struck the foot of the post and bounced clear.

The Netherlands were well on top now and Wright saved well from Gandu before a large number of substitutions disrupted the flow of the game.

Irish goalkeeper, Ryan Kinsella was only on the pitch for less than a minute before he had to pick the ball out of the net after 53 minutes. Gandu’s cross was headed away by Jack Carty but only as far as Nygel Velder and he found the bottom corner of the net with a terrific strike.

Gandu was then again denied by Williams before Ciftci had a goal harshly ruled out for offside after 72 minutes but three minutes later, the Dutch got their second goal.

Gianluca Carias right wing cross picked out Oguzhan Ozyakup on the edge of the box, he controlled the ball brilliantly with his first touch and beat Williams with a well placed shot.

Ireland had a great chance to pull a goal back in the dying moments but Sean Skelly pulled his shot wide of the far post after he had been put in the clear.
