Match report
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Scotland

THE Republic of Ireland U17 side played out a scoreless draw with Scotland to finish second in their final fixture in the UEFA Championships Qualifying Round at Longford’s City Calling Stadium tonight.

Tom Mohan’s side missed out on top spot to the Scots on goal difference but both sides had already qualified for the Elite Phase.

The last game in the group was far from an eventful fixture as the visitors were content to hold what they had and the home side failed to carve open a clear-cut chance to seal the win.

In the 47th minute a low cross by Jake Doyle-Hayes flew across the Scottish goal and substitute Gerry McDonagh just failed to connect.

Eight minutes later a corner by Josh Barrett found the head of Doyle-Hayes and Trevor Clarke just failed to get his foot to the loose ball, which rolled wide.

Barrett was unlucky not to carve out a chance for himself in the 74th minute with a neat piece of skill and when he drove the ball goal-wards it was deflected wide to the relief of the wrong-footed Scottish keeper Robby McCrorie.
