Tom Mohan’s Republic of Ireland Under 19 side began their quest for UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification with a scoreless draw against Azerbaijan in Waterford this evening.
The result leaves Ireland second in the table with Serbia leading the way following a 1-0 win over Cyprus this evening.
The Under 19’s can count themselves unlucky following a positive display that yielded plenty of opportunities but the deadlock couldn’t be broken.
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby came closest for Ireland but his effort rebounded back off the woodwork.
Mohan’s side face the Cyprus on Saturday in Waterford but will do so without defender Canice Carroll who picked up a late red card against the Azeri’s.
Ireland: Travers (GK), Carroll, Wilson, O'Shea, L. O'Connor, Molumby (C), Byrne (Afolabi 89), Scully (Obafemi 71), McKenna, O'Sullivan (Flanagan 42), Obafemi, Doherty |
