A second-half stike from Naas FC striker Josh Derham proved crucial, as Ireland earned a valuable win.
After losing the two-legged affair last year to Wales in Tramore, Jim Crawford's side go into Thursday's game in a positive position to reclaim the Cup.
Speaking from Wales after the win, Crawford said he was delighted with the performance of the team.
"We didn't have much time with the players to get them organised in the way we want them to play. I've been really impressed with how the lads have taken on the information we have given them and how they implemented it on the field", Crawford revealed.
"We played a lot of decent stuff, for players that wouldn't know each other. They have done themselves proud tonight".
The teams meet once more on Thursday afternoon, in Bala Town's Maes Tegid.
