Sean Mc Caffrey fresh following his appontment last month as boss of the Under 17 and Under 19 was unfortunate not to win this Friendly match against France in Alencon.

His young side took the lead twice only to relinquish it to an 84th minute equaliser.

Ireland went into this game with a six match unbeaten run and took an early lead when Paul Mc Shane headed home Mark Yeates cross.

Things got better for Ireland when Gary Mulligan hit home a penalty after 32 minutes.

France hit back jsut after the break when when Samuel Robail scored before impressive striker Said Khiter levelled the game.

Alan O Brien scored the goal of the game when he evaded three French players on a 40 yard dash to drive home past keeper Benvegnu.

The French had the last say when Khiter scored his second goal with six minutes remaining
