Ireland off to a winning start in Nordic Cup

Sean McCaffrey’s Under 17 side today had the perfect start to the Nordic Championship, this afternoon as they beat Norway 3-2 at the Fylkisvollur Stadium in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The Republic of Ireland raced into an early lead with goals from Tom Lyons after only 3 minutes which was followed by a Donal McDermott effort after 15 minutes. Norway replied with a goal after 28 minutes.

Sean McCaffrey’s men only had to wait until the 53rd minute to regain their two-goal advantage through Killian Sheridan. Norway set up an uneasy finish for the Irish as they scored their second goal in the 69th minute.

In the other game of the group, tournament hosts and the Republic of Ireland’s next opponents, Iceland, went down 4-0 to Denmark.
