Ireland Under 17s fantastique against France
The Republic of Ireland Under 17s enjoyed a well-deserved 1-0 victory over France in Paris on Tuesday evening thanks to a wonderful goal from Adam Rooney.
Rooney scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute when a Jimmy Ryan pass gave him a chance to run at the France goal and he held off two defenders before crashing an unstoppable shot into the net.
Ten minutes later, Rooney nearly grabbed a second when, after beating the goalkeeper, he sent his shot bobbling along the goal line before it hit the post and rebounded to safety.
Manager Sean McCaffrey said: “It was a fantastic result. We played brilliantly against a very good France side and got a result that we deserved. I’m delighted for the players who can gain a lot of confidence from how they played.”
