Match report
McCaffreys Under 17's draw with Germany

The Republic of Ireland’s Under 17 team had an excellent 1 - 1 draw with hosts Germany in their second game of the UEFA Under 17 Championship 1st Qualifying phase today.

Sean McCaffrey’s boys went behind 2 minutes into injury time in the first half.

However they fought back and it was Anthony Stokes, the Irish scorer in midweek against Iceland, who brought the teams level in the 69th minute.

The Irish were unlucky not to clinch the victory as Alan Judge had an effort come off the crossbar in the 73rd minute.

In the other game in the Group, Iceland and Lithuania drew 2 - 2.

Germany lead the group with four points, Ireland and Iceland each have two points while Lithuania has one.

Ireland face the Lithuanians on Monday in the final game in the Group at 4.30pm in Grabow while the Germans take on Iceland.

With two teams to go through to the next phase Sean McCaffrey’s and his team feel they have an excellent chance of advancing even though the Lithuanians played very well against Iceland today.
