Vincent Butler’s Under 15 side begin the Tenerife Tournament this evening as they take on the Canary Islands.
Irealnd lost 1- o to the Canary Islands on Saturday in the Villa De Santiago Teide International Tournament.
This only tells half the story as Ireland with their Under 15 squad took on the older Under 16 Canary Islands team.
For the last two years this competition was held for Under 15 teams but this year it was changed to Under 16. Unfortunately somebody forgot to notify the Irish contingent.
Vincent Butler was high in his praise of the players as they held their control despite immense provacation resulting in at least two of the players receiving nasty injuries as a result of the rough tactics of the locals.
Despite the provocation that eventually saw 4 of the Canary Islands team booked and one sent off the Irish fell to a late goal.
Ireland received a big blow when Conor Clifford went over on his ankle with ten minutes to go which rules him out of the games against Turkey this week and is doubtful for the SFAI cup final against Mervue United at the end of the month.
