Republic of Ireland 2 Slovenia 0
The Republic of Ireland Under 15 side have defeated Slovenia, 2-0 in Whitehall, Dublin this evening. The home side were set for retribution after they were punished for not taking their chances in the first game of this double International Friendly which they lost 2-1.
Vincent Butlers men started brightly, dominating midfield possession but failed to create any clear cut chances up front. Karl Shephard opened the scoring after 35 minutes when captain, Conor Clifford made a strong run through midfield and when Dinko Catic in the Slovenian goal failed to grasp the long range effort, Karl Shephard was on hand to poke it into the net.
The Irish continued to pressurise the Slovenian defence in the second half, substitute, Darragh Satelle went agonisingly close with a header while Paul Murphy should have doubled the score when he missed a free header at the back post.
Vincent Butlers men had to wait until the 73rd minute of play for their second goal, Mervue Uniteds Greg Cunningham fired an unstoppable shot from outside the box which left the Slovenian goalkeeper with no chance.
Vincent Butler said after the game, "I am very pleased with the result, I felt that we should have won the first game on Tuesday, I am absolutely delighted for the boys as this is a learning curve for them, this is a two year process in which many of the players will be playing in the UEFA Under 17 Championships qualifiers with Sean McCaffrey"
