Match report
Ireland suffered their second defeat in Utrecht in this Under 15 Development squad game in Utrecht yesterday.

In this the second game Ireland once again failed to win after controlling the game for long periods and once again fell to a soft goal a shot by De Haas after 31 minutes.

The game opened as if Holland were going to overrun us but after the initial first five minutes Ireland took control. Holland were first to show and good work between Hushyari and Karim cut the Irish defence to ribbons but Ger Hanley was quick off his line to avert the danger.

Holland had a corner kick cleared to Conor Clifford whose sublime pass split the Dutch defence and with Shane Howard in hot pursuit having broken the offside trap the Dutch were relieved when Maas in the Dutch goal got the ball mille seconds ahead of Howard to prevent what would have been a certain goal.
Another corner for Holland after 12 minutes saw the ball come across the face of the goal and Ireland were fortunate that Niall Byrne was in position on the far post to clear off the line.

Shane Howard was having an excellent game – tormenting the Dutch defence at every opportunity – The Dutch had on occasions to revert to illegal means to stop Howard on various occasions. The referee being very lenient with the perpetrators.

Ireland should have equalised with the best opportunity of the first half when Murphy put in a marvellous cross after turning the full back inside out. Daragh Satelle got on the end of his cross and really should have done better heading wide from six yards.

The second half started in the same vein with once again the midfield of Howard, Cawley, Clifford and Murphy in control the forwards were receiving a lot of ball. On one such occasion Howard made another telling run down the wing and crossed to Paul Murphy who hit a shot first time that smacked against the upright and fell invitingly into the keepers hands.

David Cawley brought the best out of the Dutch keeper after 60 minutes when he got up above everybody at a corner only for the keeper to get his hand to Caw ley’s goal bound shot.

After 64 minutes Aaron Doran – who had the magical moment on Tuesday hitting the cross bar and two uprights in the one shot – once again hit the post with the keeper beaten.

Greg Cunningham who had replaced Howard showed that there was depth in this squad as he continued where Howard had left off and was a constant threat. On one such occasion a great cross was just behind the inrushing forwards and was cleared by the Van Wieringen.

An influx of substitutions by both teams took the “sting” out of the game and the remainder was played out in a lack lustre fashion.

Vincent Butler expressed his delight with the two games. Once again we have proved that we can match the supposedly best in Europe- This was our first gathering and the players will improve immensely from the two outings. We will have them together over the coming weeks and there is more improvement in this squad. It was great that we were able to see 18 players in two competitive games” He said after the game.
