Brian Kerr's Under-19 team have defeated Austria 2-0 in their second game of the UEFA qualifying tournament at Turner's Cross this afternoon. A goal either side of half-time earned them full points and sets up a group decider with Croatia later this week. Centre-back Patrick McCarthy of Manchester City headed Ireland's first on 37 minutes from close range. It was 2-0 in the 50th minute after a mix-up in the Austrian defence saw defender Togatet head Brian Murphy's long clearance past his own keeper.
The Republic now meet Croatia, who defeated Latvia 4-1 this afternoon, at St Coleman's Park this Friday night to decide the group. Both teams have full points from their first two games. |
