Match report
Despite goals by Joxer Kelly and Adam Rooney Ireland fell 3-2 to Georgia in the Under 19 Elite Round of the European Championships yesterday

Sean Mc Caffreys week went from bad to worse with this 3-2 defeat by Georgia in the last game of the Under19 Elite Round of the European Championships.

Again Ireland were left to come from behind as Georgia raced into a two goal lead and try as they might Ireland created chances but with a defence that leaked goals all week Ireland were always going to have an uphill battle.

As early as the sixth minute Ireland should have taken heed of the warning as a cross from the right found the dangerous Tsinamdzghvrishvili in the centre but he wasted his chance.

Georgia made Ireland pay in the 9th minute when Kvaratskhelia got down the right wing and a pin point crosss found Tsinamdzghvrishvili unmarked in the box and he gave Randolph no chance at all beating him with a good header.

Worse was to follow as Ireland fell to a second goal after 13 minutes when a free kick was allowed to bobble around the goalmouth and Gotsiridze took adavantage of the hesitancy in the Irish golamouth and slammed into to the back of the net.

Ireland thought they had received a life line as Joxer Kelly tapped into an empty net after Darren O Dea had got up well to head a free kicck into Joxers path but the goal was disallowed due to an infringement in the box.

This goal gave Ireland heart and with Joxer Kelly becoming more of an influence on the left wing Ireland began to look dangerous. Both Kelly and Billy Clarke were beginning to terrorise the Georgian defence and With James O Brien seeing more of the ball Ireland began to play more like the side we know.

A dangerous cross by Ian Morris went tantalisingly close but Ireland were still prone to defensive errors and Vakhtang had a golden opportunity to increase Georgia s lead but missed from 6 yards out.

Ireland got back into the game when Joxer Kelly scored after - a deserving goal for the little man who had looked like one of the few players to enhance his reputation in this tournament.

Just when it looked as if Ireland were going to go and claim the three points another lapse of concentarion allowed Kvaratskhelia space and time in the box and he took his goal well with a great shot into the corner of the net.

Ireland tried hard and in the final minute Adam Rooney added to his interantional goal tally with an opportunistic goal.

This defeat was very disappointing as Ireland had come to these champioships with high hopes but the concession of 9 goals in games will not win any chamionships. The difficult part to take was this this team was thought to be strong defensively.

Players to play well in the Championships were Joxer Kelly certainly played the Captains roll and the wonder is that he is still playing Eircom League, football, Simon Madden despite playing on his "wrong " side in 2 games did his reputation no harm at all and will be ahuge addition to next years squad.

Adam Rooney up front showed that this player will get better and better and next season could be a massive year for him. Ian Morris finished the tournament on a good note while Anthony Stokes is Anthony Stokes.
