Changes to under 21 team Republic of Ireland Under-21 team manager Don Givens has been forced into making several changes to his squad for the 11th annual Madeira Cup tournament from February 27th – March 2nd. Ireland’s won the trophy on the island of Madeira last year and will defend their title by playing three matches against Slovakia (February 27th), Madeira (February 28th) and Portugal (March 2nd). Goalkeepers Darren Randolph and Shane Supple along with midfielders Stephen Quinn, Darron Gibson and Owen Garvan as well as Anthony Stokes are all unable to travel with the squad. The two goalkeepers have been replaced by Rene Gilmartin (Walsall) and James Russell (Chelsea). Michael O’Connor from Crewe Alexandra, who made his Ireland debut in the last Under-21 fixture against in October against Luxembourg, has been drafted in, as has Sunderland winger Billy Dennehy Three more eircom league players have been called up with James Chambers (Shelbourne), Ronan Finn (UCD) and Gary Curran (Sligo Rovers) now in the panel.
