Ruth Keegan enters her fourth season leading the womens soccer program at Christopher Newport University in 2011. She joined the Captains program in spring of 2008 and immediately made a positive impact. In her first season, she posted a 14-win season, the best ever for a first year coach at CNU. The 14-7-1 mark put her en route to her first USA South Championship game appearance.
Keegan hauled in her first USA South Coach of the year honors in 2008 after the successful campaign in a vote by the leagues coaches. It was the fifth time in seven years a CNU coach was named the leagues best, and Keegans first career head coaching honor. Keegan was honored as Coach of the Year a second time by the USA South after the 2011 season where the team posted a 16-5-1 overall record.
Year three brought even more sucess for the Captains as Keegan led the squad to a perfect 9-0 record in conference play the conference tournament championship for the second consecutive year. The Captains also tied the program record for wins in a season, set in 2004, with 16. The Captains would fall to The College of New Jersey in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the sixth trip in the programs young 14-year history.
She currently sports a 41-20-5 mark in her coaching career after three seasons, good for a .659 win percentage.
Keegan, a native of Dublin, Ireland, graduated from Methodist College in 1995, and was an All-American and Dixie Conference Player of the Year while with the Monarchs. Her playing experience also includes five years with the Republic of Ireland national team. She currently resides in Virginia Beach with her daughter Molly.
