Gerard Anthony Daly started his football career in Drumcondra with the Famous schoolboy Nursery Stella Maris he was purchased by Manchester United fora reported fee of 20,000 pounds from Bohemian F.C. in 1973. Manchester United were relegated that year and Daly played his part in bringing United back up at the first attempt
After a dispute with Tommy Docherty Daly signed for Derby County for £175,000 in 1977 becoming the most expensive Irish player at the time.
Ironically 6 months later Tommy Docherty was appointed manager of Derby County and although Daly continued to p;lay it was not long until he was on his way to Coventry City for £310,000.
In his career he also played for Shrewsbury Town and Doncaster Rovers.
He won one of his 48 Ireland international caps whilst at Shrewsbury.
