Rory John Delap (born in Sutton Coldfield, England) is an English-born Irish footballer who currently plays for Stoke City. Previously, he was signed for Sunderland by ex manager Mick McCarthy on a free transfer, before becoming a marginal figure in new manager Roy Keane's squad.
Playing career Prior to playing for Sunderland, Delap was Southampton's most expensive transfer, moving to the club for £4m from Derby County. He began his career at Carlisle United before joining Derby for £200,000. The utility player has been capped 11 times for the Republic of Ireland.
Delap made 6 appearances for Sunderland in the 05-06 season before injury struck. In October 2006 he joined Stoke City on loan. Delap suffered a horrific injury on his home debut for Stoke City against his former club Sunderland, breaking his leg in two places while challenging for the ball. Although being on loan at the club, Stoke signed Delap on a permanent basis despite the fact that his injury sidelined him for the remainder of the 2006-07 season.
On 15 July 2007, Delap made his comeback in a pre-season friendly with Newcastle Town F.C..
