Ribena All Ireland Finals
The All-Ireland Finals of the Ribena Sponsored FAI Schools 5-a-side took place at the magnificent Meath & District League Grounds in Navan, Co.Meath on Wed.7th June 2006. Five sections were contested , two for girls and three for boys, played in front of 1,200 spectators in glorious sunshine .
Bohola NS (Mayo) celebrated on the double as both their boys' and girls' teams won National titles in the sections for small schools, the boys for the second consecutive year.Their huge travelling support created a fantastic atmosphere on the day.
In the Section C Boys for large schools, St.Joseph's (Dundalk) also made history being the first Louth school to win an All-Ireland title when their superbly skillful boys' team won all three games convincingly 5-2, 6-1 & 5-1. Their tally of 16 goals was the highest on the day with Nigerian born Samuel Obeze currently being sought by Manchester United !!
St.Joseph's (Dundalk) girls team almost matched the success of the boys as they came second to a very impressive Holy Family NS Ennis. The Clare girls had won their three games 3-1, 4-0 & 2-1 .
St.Mary's Virginia Co.Cavan also created history as they became the first Cavan school to win a National title, much to the delight of the FAI's Tom Mohan, the Regional Development Officer for the region.
FAI Schools' Ray Scott (National Administrator) & Paul Holland ( Leinster Co-ordinator) afterwards praised the magnificent facilities of the MDL grounds and thanked the players, teachers, referees (Meath Branch) , stewards (Gaelscoil na Ríthe Dunshaughlin) ,supporters & sponsors Ribena Toothkind, for providing such an enjoyable & sporting tournament. | Based on school size |
