Both Drogheda United and Waterford United were quick to distance themsleves from any involvement with Di Stefano

Drogheda United statement

The Sports section of today's Irish Times includes an article entitled "Shelbourne pull the plug". The article refers to recent media speculation that Italian businessman Giovanni di Stefano and his attempts to invest in Irish Football. Included in the article is a reference to Drogheda United which alleges that Mr di Stefano has had preliminary talks with a view to investing in the recently crowned Setanta Sports Cup champions.

Drogheda United FC categorically deny that there has been contact with Mr di Stefano or any of his representatives.

The Club Chairman Vincent Hoey, who spoke to droghedaunited.ie, said that neither he nor his fellow directors have ever spoken to this individual and that in any case Drogheda United Football club is not for sale.

Waterford United statement

Media reports over the last number of days have speculated on the proposed investment in a number of eircom league clubs by a Mr. Giovanni Di Stefano. In the course of these reports, it has been suggested that Waterford United has been in discussions with Mr. Di Stefano.

Waterford United would like to place on the record that no member of its board or management committee has ever met with, nor had any discussions with a Mr. Di Stefano or any of his representatives.
